Sichuan Mountain Guide is a team of mountain lovers and adventure people. Our aim is to show the good mountains of Sichuan. Our business it to help international climbers doing climbing in Sichuan.

Alex Tang (Founder of Sichuan Mountain Guide, Liaison Officer)

Alex Tang is an explorer. Most photos on this website are taken by Alex Tang. He started his early age as a mountain guide and started to put together useful mountain information of the known and unknown mountains of Sichuan Province(East Tibet) which later become today’s Sichuan Mountain Guide. Alex Tang is one of the few experts who have the richest knowledge of the high mountains in Sichuan. He is one of the main contributors to the book “High Mountains of Garze Prefecture”. Alex Tang has worked on some of the main international expeditions to Sichuan in the last 15 years. He keeps a good connection with Sichuan Mountaineering Association and runs good expeditions logistics work.

Jiyue Zhang (Founder of Sichuan Earth Expeditions, Liaison Officer)

Jiyue is one of the grandfathers of adventure travel in China. Upon graduation from Sichuan Sports Institute in 1982, where he was a highly ranked 400 meter runner, Jiyue began working for China Mountaineering Association as a climbing guide and liaison working with international climbers. In 1985 the Chinese government sent him to the U.S. for whitewater training where he ran eight different rivers. The following year, he participated in the joint Sino-USA, first descent of the Yangtze River which completed 2000 kilometers of the previously unrun river. ABC’s American Sportsman,featured the expedition in a two-part, 90-minute special titled, “Challenging China’s Yangtze”. Since 1990s, Jiyue organized numerous first ascents throughout China. Jiyue has been featured in Outside, National Geographic (yellow), National Geographic Adventure, Men’s Journal and on National Geographic Television, China’s Outdoor Exploration and Japanese Outdoor Magazine.

EDWARD HANNAM (Founder of Feeding The Rat Expeditions)

Ed has multiple titles: a consultant, a climber, an expedition organizer and a true explorer. OVER 20 YEARS AND 20 TRIPS CLIMBING IN CHINA & CENTRAL ASIA, ED HAS SEEN THE RANGES OF THE REGION OPEN UP AND SEVERAL GENERATIONS OF CLIMBERS EMERGE. FROM THE LARGE TEAMS OF THE LATE 90’s MAKING THE EARLY TRIPS INTO THE PAMIR TO THE SMALL, SELF-SUSTAINED TEAMS DOING FAST ASCENTS IN TIBET HE HAS BEEN AMONG THE MOST ENDURING OF FOREIGN CLIMBERS IN CHINA. RUNNING JAPAN’S MOST EXTENSIVE ALPINE CLIMBING COMPANY, HE HAS CROSS-POLLINATED MANY ELEMENTS GLEANED FROM JAPANESE ALPINISM WITH HIGH ALTITUDE TRIPS ACROSS TIBET & XINJIANG THAT HAS LEAD TO MULTIPLE FIRST ASCENTS AND DIFFICULT ROUTES.

Dorjee (one of our many local workers)

Dorjee is our Tibetan partner based in Kangding. Dorjee runs the pack animals, herds yaks, worships Buddha and conducts the actual mountain rescue when needed. Not enough credit is given to the actual local people who are so close to the mountains and provide sp much help to climbers and mountain expedition works. We have many local partners like Dorjee in the vast land of Garze and Ngawa where the big mountains are.
